Called to order - 6:30
Board Members - John Bird, Ray Woodruff, Tom Hamilton, Camden Farmer,
Robert Liebman, Chad Francis, Ken Hughes, Mike Storrs and Jay Burghardt
Guests - Alex Johnson and Doug Bjerkaas
February minutes were voted on and approved
Finances - Ken
Hughes spoke of the financials. He mentioned that many times in the
past at this point, with tourney expenses coming up, we have been in the
red, but we are looking good so far this year and still in the black.
Eventual Johnny Roberts
Course closure for renovation - Much conversation was brought up about the
upcoming changes to the park. It was brought up that there is a survey at
the park, asking for patrons’ comments and suggestions about the park
use. Alex Johnson mentioned he was pleased with the survey being offered, and
encouraged everyone to take part in it and let their voices be heard.
There is an Arvada Board meeting coming up on Feb 27th, and the Mile High Board
members have been invited to attend. Mike Storrs urged the importance of a
good turn out from our board showing our support. He also thought that it was
important to have Arvada disc golfers show up since they are residents and
might possibly bring a louder voice to the proceedings.
Memberships - Current
memberships are at 125 - expect to go up once tag matches begin
Tag matches - Set to
begin the week of daylight savings time. Dave is looking to have a tag master
lunch together so that everyone is on the same page. Again, it was brought up
about tagmasters’ needing to post tags, but it was discussed that running a tag
match is tough enough, that we cannot make it a requirement to post the tags.
But what we can do is make it as easy as possible for the tagmasters to post
them if they choose.
Still need a couple of
course tagmasters for the 2013 season
Website Update - As
Always, Chad is up to his spectacular work and gave us a demonstration for some
of the new things that are happening with the website. He hopes to launch this
new look website in 3-4 weeks.
Spring Fling - Marsha
was not at the meeting, as she has many things to attend to in setting up the
tournament. She did send an email to the board about possibly getting umbrellas
for the players pack and might need a bit more upfront money. The board
approved it. Also requested was sponsorship, by the club, for all Juniors. The
first 5 registered was suggested and the board approved it.
Grudge Match - this
will again be a fund raiser for both the RMWDC and the Mile High Classic -
Details are still being worked out, but the date is set at April 27th, three
rounds of 12 holes
RODNOC - Chad asked
the board for a free date for the Rodnoc event, and they came up with May 25th
High Plains Challenge
- John Bird spoke of the HPC in June. He said he hopes to complete some new
holes out in Ft Morgan. He said the tourism board is again, on board with the
tournament. He mentioned that a new hotel is being built in Ft Morgan, The
Hampton Inn. Jay commented that Hampton Inns, in general, are not low cost
hotels and might not be a good fit for disc golfers. He said he has a meeting
with the Ft Morgan disc golf association, which has new leadership, about
helping out with the tournament.
RMWDGC - Doug Bjerkaas
spoke of the upcoming Rocky Mountain Women’s DGC- He indicated that several of
the top touring pros are planning on attending. He again spoke of the plans to
make this a two day for advanced and above and a one day for all others. He
said he is still working on the "2nd" course, but he is getting
closer. Again, he passed out finance sheets detailing all monies coming in and
Memorial - Tom spoke of some of his plans for JRM this year. And it looks like
it will be two courses, Beaver Ranch, and Colorado Heights- he said he has lots
of fun things in the works for this event. And he is hoping to reconnect Johnny
Roberts, the man, with the tournament, in a different fashion this year.
Rob Liebman and US
Masters - Rob Liebman spoke of the desire to hold a major tour event in the
Denver area. He had a stack of papers that he printed off detailing the
requirements. After discussing, he thinks this can be done, but it still might
be a couple of years away.
Phenix Disc Sports
started with hats and visors.
Selling tags on line
was discussed. With Phenix's overhead cost in processing credit card payments
and shipping, it was agreed that tags sold on line through Phenix, they can
keep $2.00 off of each tag sold, giving the club $18.00 per membership. The
board voted on and approved this measure
