On August 15th, there will be a benefit tournament for the Mile High Disc Golf Club's 2009 Johnny Roberts Memorial at Jim Cannon's Mansion Course in Lakewood Colorado. (Thank you Jim, you are one in a million!)Every $20 dollar entry fee will be a donation to the Club/Event. In addition to disc golf, the entry fee includes a party at the lake (Volleyball, water sports, beverages, and food). Several prizes will be given including Rockies Tickets, Trophies, a JRM Paid Entry or 2, and the Green Jacket! (If you would like to contribute a disc or other merchandise, that is more than generous).
Format: In tradition to Jim's formats, we will have one Open division and one Women's divison, both of which are for players of all skill levels. You will be playing the first round to qualify for the final 9, there are a couple of specifics to be worked out so stay tuned.
About the course: The Mansion course is a beautiful private course on Ward Lake. (And for this event only, through the historic Bonfils Gardens, which are in the National Register of Historical Gardens). The design concept of the course is that you can build an exciting disc golf course on an extremely small parcel of land (less than 10 acres). I'm told that it is one of the hardest small courses in the world and it hammers people on their mistakes. YOU ARE OFTEN FACED WITH DEATH PUTTS AND THE THE DIRE AND TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES OF MISSING THEM.
So here's the small print: Date: Saturday, August 15 (Snow Mtn. has been moved to the 22nd of August so this is an open date for most players). There will be three rounds of tags to preview the private course Thursday August 13th (tags 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and certified tags 5:30 p.m.). Online registration will be up on this site by Friday July 24th at 10pm. We will ask for donations at the tag matches, $5 requested, pay more if you can. TAG MATCHES - are limited to Mile High Disc Golf members only. Mile High tag packages will be available for those people that aren't members. We expect this event to fill up quickly with 72 spots available. Carpooling to this event is requested as parking is limited. Also, we may need a handful of spotters so if you wish not play and want to volunteer you are welcome to enjoy the other festivities.
Thanks again Jim for putting your course up to raise funds for Johnny! The funds will be split, half will go to boosting the sweet player's packages for JRM and the other half will go towards the cash payout.
Hope to see you out there!
Tom
