WW X @ Valmont

user avatar Posted by Ray Woodruff on 12/16/2014 at 08:12 am
This week, we are heading northwest to Boulder to play the Valmont Disc Park. This course is new to the WW stable of courses and should yield some nice low scores for those hoping to make it into the top 10.
The weather looks to be a bit chilly with a good chance that there will be snow on the ground, but I have no fear for all of you Winter Warriors. I know you'll be there!
This year's fundraising efforts have been awe inspiring and we hope the trend continues in the coming weeks.

We have already cleared the $9000 mark and we still have 6 weeks to go, so lets keep up the momentum and clear that goal of $10K before the end of the month.

The schedule looks like this:
Check-in: 8:00-8:50 am at the parking lot
Cost: $5.00 donation to play (except Season Pass Holders),
$1.00 for CTP throw (optional), $1.00 for ace pool (optional - 50% payout)
Mulligans are available for the day at $3 each or 2 Mulligans for $5
9:00 am: Players' Meeting & Draw Cards
9:15 am: Tee-off!!!
Following the round: CTP for prizes. You can pay $1.00 at check-in for one throw and $1.00 for each additional throw.

Does anybody out there have any donations for the CTP prizes? Hats? Discs? Gear? Apparel? Tickets to sporting events? Ski Lift tickets? All donations would be GREATLY appreciated.
The CTP funds play a big part in the WW fundraising efforts. Please let Jeff and/or Ray know if you have items to donate.

2015 Mile High Disc Golf Ice Bowl

user avatar Posted by Jay Burghardt on 12/09/2014 at 03:12 pm
It's Time!      The Ice Bowl is nearly upon us!

Welcome to the 2015 Mile High Disc Golf Ice Bowl
It’s time once again for the Mile High Disc Golf Club Ice Bowl, where we all throw discs in the cold so others don’t have to go hungry.  All money raised and food collected will benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies.  This will be our 12th year holding this event, and we have totaled over $124,000 for local charities. In fact, three out of the last four years our club, its members, and all of our supporters have raised THE MOST money in the country for our chosen charity. With over 200 clubs from around the country, that is down right incredible. All those who register will receive a custom stamped 2015 Ice Bowl disc and new this year,  set of "nested" Ice Bowl minis.

                       Register Early for Bonus Mulligans!

The Mile High Disc Golf Club presented the Food Bank of the Rockies with a check for $20,000 in March. A MHDGC record by far!

This year, our event takes us to Fehringer Ranch disc golf course.  A new course built in the last year, that will make a perfect place to play the Ice Bowl. Holes that can be reached by many, where mulligans for that long 45ft putt will reign king.
Just like years gone by, you will be able to collect mulligans in a variety of ways to help lower your score, or perhaps give yourself a do over for that 6 foot putt you missed because your fingers were frozen.  This promises to be a memorable event.  Michelle and I are expecting this event will fill, so sign up early and don’t take a chance on being left out.

All money raised goes to put food in the mouths of the hungry!

                              The Mulligan Equation
Here are the 4 easy ways to collect mulligans: 1) You get five mulligans just for signing up to play in the Ice Bowl; 2) If you sign up before Dec 31st, you will get an extra 5 mulligans. If you sign up after Dec 31st, but before Jan 15th, you will get an extra 3 mulligans; 3) Every Winter Warrior weekend you attend, you will get one mulligan; 4) For every $25 you collect in donations you will receive another 3 mulligans and, of course, you can purchase mulligans at the event for $5 a piece or 5 for $20.  Let’s say you attend 10 winter warrior events, you are signed up by Christmas, and you hit up your family and coworkers for $100 in donations. Poof! 32 mulligans!

Every $1 raised is enough to supply 4 meals for those in need!

                                            The Raffle
We will also be having a raffle for everything from Ice Bowl merchandise to clothes (shirts/hats) to plush Rockies Blankets and toys for the kids.  The cost of raffle tickets is $5 for one and $20 for 5 tickets.  You will also receive one raffle ticket for each $25 in donations or 5 for each $100 in donations you bring in.  You must be present to win the Raffle. Our "GRAND PRIZE" this year will be a full size, Discatcher Basket, Yellow band, portable with the cast iron base plate, and the number 15 on it for 2015 year. Don't miss out on the chance to win this!.

                                      The Silent Auction
As in years past, we will have several items available at a silent auction, and this year will be no different. This year, like last year,  we will have an autographed photo of a Colorado Rockies player in beautiful triple matted frame. Last year it was Todd Helton, and this year we have a sweet authenticated Carlos Gonzales photo.  We will try and “release” one item on the website every couple of weeks to see if it might draw some early interest.  There will also be some classic discs you might have always wanted, a priority registration for one or two of our most popular Mile High golf events, or a surprise or two you never thought would show up at our bidding tables. Please keep in mind, not all items will be available for early bidding during the weeks leading up to the Ice Bowl.  You DO NOT have to be present to bid/win auction items that are showcased before February 7th.  So, if you want that MLB authenticated and autographed photo of  Carlos Gonzales in a beautiful matted frame, but you will be in New York on business, you can still own it by placing the winning bid in advance.

                          The Mile High Member Challenge

We are a club of nearly 400 people up and down the Front Range.  Most of us know where our next meal is coming from; many more do not. We challenge each and every one of the Mile High Disc Golf Club members to bring in at least $100 in donations. Think about it...a hundred bucks.  It's that simple!  We have coworkers, we have friends, we have neighbors and we have family.  Please speak to them, let them know about our fight to help end hunger.  Many of them will be willing to donate $5, $10 or even $20 when you let them know how far their donations and their generosity can go.

Remember - Every $1 raised is enough for 4 meals!
$100 dollars in donations. Easy to do if you put your mind to it

Check out the events page for the Food and Drinks specials at the awards.

Joe Haman Memorial Fund

user avatar Posted by Mike Storrs on 11/11/2014 at 05:11 pm
On October 3, 2014 the Mile High Disc Golf community suffered a tragic loss when club member Joe Haman was killed in a motorcycle accident in the hills west of Denver.

Joe was a big part of laying the foundation for what we all enjoy today. He was tournament director of Spring Fling prior to Marsha Sonderfan, was responsible for the redesign of Interlocken East course and served on the Board of Directors of MHDGC. Most of all, he was an Ambassador for the game and the club.

In his honor, the club has donated $200 to the Joseph Haman fund that will help support his twin daughters Ashley and Elizabeth. If you would like to make a donation as well please visit Here you can share your stories, pictures and help monetarily.

Rest In Peace Joe

Winter Warriors X

user avatar Posted by Jeff McCormack on 09/06/2014 at 10:09 pm
With all of this year's interesting weather, I'm sure that most of you have been wondering "When does that Winter Warrior series start?"
Well, wonder no more!  We're excited to be kicking off the 10th annual season of the fundraising disc golf double series.  As this is the 10th season, naturally our goal for the year is $10,000 raised for the Food Bank of the Rockies!  The Food Bank can create 4 meals out of every dollar donated.  Let's help the Food Bank provide 40,000 meals for those in need!  In the past 9 years, this event has raised almost $49,000!  Let's keep it going strong!  We've got 13 great weeks lined up on the awesome disc golf courses along the front range.  We'll be coming to a course near you very soon!

This year's weekly series will begin November 1st, 2014 at Colorado Heights University - This will be the last organized event at this course. It will be pulled at the end of the calendar year.  All players will need to pre-register for this event on the MHDGC website.  The cost to play is $5.00 (not including small Paypal fee).  If you're purchasing a Season Pass, there will be an option to let us know that you plan on playing CHU.  If you're not purchasing a Season Pass, please register for CHU on the WWX Kick-Off @ CHU event page.

Format will be random draw doubles, best shot with a small twist... double birdies!
Double birdies - Both players drive and select the best shot.  If both players make birdie from that spot they score a -2 for that hole.  If one player hits an ace their partner can still get a birdie to go -3 on the hole.  Two aces count as -4.  Get some!!!
Just to keep everyone guessing, the tournament hosts will modify several holes prior to start time!  Watch out for alternate shot, worst shot, putter/driver only holes, mini hole, forehand only, disc swaps and more! This is going to be fun!!!
Weekly winners will each receive a Winter Warrior bag tag with the series logo, date and location.  Series winners (top 10 men and top 5 women) will receive trophies.
Series winners and places will be determined by totaling the players' top 6 weekly scores.  The more you play, the more chances you have at bettering your score!
We will be offering both a Men's and a Women's division with prizes for the top group in each and maybe a prize for the #1 finisher in each division if we can swing it.
Weekly participation is not required.  For those that are hearty enough to attend all 13 weeks, they will receive a "Winter Warrior" trophy for making them all.

There will be a weekly ace pool for $1 per week.  Ace pool winners will receive 50% of the pool.  The remaining 50% will be donated to the Food Bank of the Rockies fund. Dollars will carry over from week to week.  CTP throws for donated prizes are $1 per throw immediately following each round.
Please let us know if you have something to donate... discs, game tickets, ski passes, etc.  It is for a great cause!  New this year: Mulligans for sale!  You can purchase up to two mulligans to use during the round (1 for $3 or 2 for $5).  Use 'em or lose 'em as you can only use them for that week's round.  You can share with your partner if you would like.

We're again excited to offer a WW Season Pass!  The Season Pass costs $60 and will gain you entry into each week of Winter Warriors, a WWX Season Pass bag tag, a free CTP throw each week, priority registration into the kick-off at CHU and a WWX custom designed item like a hat, disc or tee shirt.  If you purchase a WWX Season Pass, you do not have to participate in each week, but should you choose to participate in any week, you're all paid up! (does not include Ace Pool entries or bonus events to be announced later).  Season Passes can be purchased any week during the WWX season, though we recommend buying early to maximize your savings. To purchase a WWX Season Pass, just register and pay via the MHDGC website just as you would for any MHDGC tournament. We will also accept cash at any of the Winter Warrior events.

Take note, Season Pass holders will receive priority registration for the seasons first event at Colorado Heights University.
The field will be limited to 126 players and we do expect it to fill.  Once 126 players have registered, a wait list will be created.  You won't want to miss out on this super fun round at CHU!

Thanks for your support!
