WW X Kick-Off at CHU Registration

user avatar Posted by Jeff McCormack on 10/19/2014 at 11:10 pm
We're excited to kick-off Winter Warriors Season 10 at Colorado Heights University on Saturday, November 1st!  Due to the anticipated high number of participants, we're requiring pre-registration for this week.  Registration for the WWX kick-off at CHU goes live on Monday, October 20th at 9:00am!  The entry donation for this week is still $5.00 (plus small Paypal fee).  Season Pass holders get priority registration for this event and will be added to the CHU registration once they sign up for their Season Pass (current Season Pass registrants have been added to the CHU registration as of 10/19).  The CHU registration is currently capped at 116 people, allowing for 10 additional Season Pass sign-ups through Wednesday, October 29th (after 116 have signed up).  If, after Weds. October 29th, those 10 spots haven't been filled by Season Pass holders, people will be taken off the wait list to get to final cap of 126 players.  If you register for the CHU round and are unable to play, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can take you off the registration and add people from the wait list.  Don't miss out on this opportunity to play in the last organized disc golf event at CHU!  It's going to be a great day of disc golf fun supporting the Food Bank of the Rockies!

MHDGC Board Elections

user avatar Posted by Marsha Sonderfan on 10/17/2014 at 08:10 am
It is yet again that exciting time of year where we get to hold elections for board members for the club!

The board members give their time every month to ensure the club runs smoothly. Being a board member simply means you are willing to give a little bit of your time and effort to making sure we keep making disc golf in Colorado better every year. The board meets once a month for approximately 2 hours in the evening, and we require regular attendance at the meetings (with a few allowed pre-stated absences). We expect board members to contribute ideas and help run tournaments and other club-related events. We also expect board members to conduct themselves professionally and remember that you are an ambassador for the club and the awesome silly sport we all love. Detailed Board Member requirements and expectations can be found here.

The current board consists of:
Jay Burghardt (Secretary)
Camden Farmer* (Vice President)
Chad Francis*
Kyle Harrigan
Alex Johnson*
Rob Liebman
Gail Pace
Marsha Sonderfan
Mike Storrs
David Straight* (Treasurer)

Ray Woodruff (President)

We also have one at-large board member, Ken Hughes, who assists with accounting for the club.

We have four three-year terms expiring this year, marked with asterisks above. Chad Francis will be switching to an at-large board member position. We thank him for his years of service as a full board member and his contributions to our lively discussions. Chad will continue with his voluntary duties as our webmaster, which is why we felt it a good idea to retain him as an at-large board member.

Nomination forms are available here. All nominees for board positions must be current members of the club in good standing, and must have been a member for at least one year. Nominations must be signed by five current members of the club, and may be submitted to any current board member or mailed to: Mile High Disc Golf Club PO BOX 701 Arvada, CO 80001 All nominations must be received by the board before the next board meeting - November 12 at 6pm. Nominations must be accepted by the nominee. The board will contact all nominees prior to opening online voting (if necessary).

Elections will be held online if necessary, with voting open for at least 7 days (details to be determined at November board meeting). Information will be emailed to all current Mile High members for whom we have a valid email address. For those who have not voted online, paper ballots will be available at the annual club meeting on December 14. An official members meeting will take place, and election results will be announced at the annual members meeting. More details to come about the members' meeting.

If you have any questions, comments, or would like more information, please contact Marsha Sonderfan through the forums (marshief) or through msonderfan at mhdgc dot org.

Winter Warriors X

user avatar Posted by Jeff McCormack on 09/06/2014 at 10:09 pm
With all of this year's interesting weather, I'm sure that most of you have been wondering "When does that Winter Warrior series start?"
Well, wonder no more!  We're excited to be kicking off the 10th annual season of the fundraising disc golf double series.  As this is the 10th season, naturally our goal for the year is $10,000 raised for the Food Bank of the Rockies!  The Food Bank can create 4 meals out of every dollar donated.  Let's help the Food Bank provide 40,000 meals for those in need!  In the past 9 years, this event has raised almost $49,000!  Let's keep it going strong!  We've got 13 great weeks lined up on the awesome disc golf courses along the front range.  We'll be coming to a course near you very soon!

This year's weekly series will begin November 1st, 2014 at Colorado Heights University - This will be the last organized event at this course. It will be pulled at the end of the calendar year.  All players will need to pre-register for this event on the MHDGC website.  The cost to play is $5.00 (not including small Paypal fee).  If you're purchasing a Season Pass, there will be an option to let us know that you plan on playing CHU.  If you're not purchasing a Season Pass, please register for CHU on the WWX Kick-Off @ CHU event page.

Weekly donation is $5 per person to play. ALL PROCEEDS NOT SPENT ON PRIZES WILL BE DONATED TO THE FOOD BANK OF THE ROCKIES!!!
Format will be random draw doubles, best shot with a small twist... double birdies!
Double birdies - Both players drive and select the best shot.  If both players make birdie from that spot they score a -2 for that hole.  If one player hits an ace their partner can still get a birdie to go -3 on the hole.  Two aces count as -4.  Get some!!!
Just to keep everyone guessing, the tournament hosts will modify several holes prior to start time!  Watch out for alternate shot, worst shot, putter/driver only holes, mini hole, forehand only, disc swaps and more! This is going to be fun!!!
Weekly winners will each receive a Winter Warrior bag tag with the series logo, date and location.  Series winners (top 10 men and top 5 women) will receive trophies.
Series winners and places will be determined by totaling the players' top 6 weekly scores.  The more you play, the more chances you have at bettering your score!
We will be offering both a Men's and a Women's division with prizes for the top group in each and maybe a prize for the #1 finisher in each division if we can swing it.
Weekly participation is not required.  For those that are hearty enough to attend all 13 weeks, they will receive a "Winter Warrior" trophy for making them all.

There will be a weekly ace pool for $1 per week.  Ace pool winners will receive 50% of the pool.  The remaining 50% will be donated to the Food Bank of the Rockies fund. Dollars will carry over from week to week.  CTP throws for donated prizes are $1 per throw immediately following each round.
Please let us know if you have something to donate... discs, game tickets, ski passes, etc.  It is for a great cause!  New this year: Mulligans for sale!  You can purchase up to two mulligans to use during the round (1 for $3 or 2 for $5).  Use 'em or lose 'em as you can only use them for that week's round.  You can share with your partner if you would like.

We're again excited to offer a WW Season Pass!  The Season Pass costs $60 and will gain you entry into each week of Winter Warriors, a WWX Season Pass bag tag, a free CTP throw each week, priority registration into the kick-off at CHU and a WWX custom designed item like a hat, disc or tee shirt.  If you purchase a WWX Season Pass, you do not have to participate in each week, but should you choose to participate in any week, you're all paid up! (does not include Ace Pool entries or bonus events to be announced later).  Season Passes can be purchased any week during the WWX season, though we recommend buying early to maximize your savings. To purchase a WWX Season Pass, just register and pay via the MHDGC website just as you would for any MHDGC tournament. We will also accept cash at any of the Winter Warrior events.

Take note, Season Pass holders will receive priority registration for the seasons first event at Colorado Heights University.
The field will be limited to 126 players and we do expect it to fill.  Once 126 players have registered, a wait list will be created.  You won't want to miss out on this super fun round at CHU!

Thanks for your support!
